LETTERS TO KAPWA

A Yoga + Sound Play Shop exploring diaspora, belonging, and the waters that connect us.

What does it mean to feel connected to a homeland that may exist miles, oceans, generations, or even memories away?

For those of us living in the diaspora, disconnection can be difficult to name. Sometimes it lives quietly in the body as we long for a place we may not fully know, the traditions we inherited in fragments, the languages we lost, or the stories that traveled across oceans to reach us.

Letters to Kapwa is an embodied exploration of connection, belonging, and remembrance, created in celebration of Letters to Home as focused during the Kasama Fest.

We’ll begin with 30 minutes of yoga, using movement and breath to return to the body.  The vessel that carries our stories, our lineage, and our lived experience.

From there, we’ll enter 30 minutes of sound. Sound has long been woven into ceremony, community, storytelling, celebration, and relationship. This isn't about recreating or claiming traditions that are not ours to claim, but about remembering that sound has always been a powerful way humans Connect with one another, with place, with spirit, and with self.

Then we will arrive at Letters to Kapwa.

You’ll be invited to translate your activation from sound and movement into what it means to return “home”.

Perhaps we don't have to cross the ocean to remember home.

Perhaps the ocean has been moving through us all along.

Come move.

Come listen.

Come write.

Come remember.

This is Letters to Kapwa.
